chipping service

We wanted to provide you with an update on the storm debris pickup in the city. The cleanup work is progressing, but it is very time consuming due to the debris amount and travel time back and forth to disposal locations. Due to this, we are unable to give any kind of schedule or timeline for pickup.

  • The city has extended the debris pickup to March 15th in order to cover all streets in the city. Crews will only be picking up once on each street. After this date, normal chipper service guidelines go back in place for the entire city. Guidelines for the Chipper service can be found at Chipper Service and Leaf Pickup | City of Forest Hills.

  • We currently have 5 different companies assisting in our cleanup efforts.

    • NDOT (Crowder Gulf)

    • Sessions Co.

    • Jarrett Co.

    • Parke Co.

    • Mid TN Co.

  • If crews have already picked up on your street through the month of February, our regular chipping guidelines will go back in place for that street. You can place normal yard debris by the roadway, but no larger than 8” in caliper.

  • Under our regular city guidelines, if you hire a tree or landscape company to do work on your property, they must take all debris with them. As homeowners, you can place normal yard maintenance debris by the street side for our monthly chipping service. If it is greater than 8” in diameter, you will be responsible to have it removed.

  • Please do not allow private companies to place debris by the roadside or add to any existing piles. After the initial city pickup from the storm, the city will only pick up normal yard debris under 8” in diameter. Our chipper service was designed for normal yard work debris, and any excessive piles will not be picked up.

  • Please keep in mind, regular monthly chipper service will take time to get back on the normal schedule, so please be patient with us during this transition time.

  • When placing debris by the road, please do not block drainage ditches or culverts. We are approaching the rainy season, and any blockages can cause stormwater problems for you and your neighboring properties.

  • When the debris is picked up, please make every attempt to clean these areas from all loose particles and smaller debris pieces to avoid clogging the culverts after the first rain. This would be a good time to check all your stormwater measures on your property to insure everything is adequate, clear of debris and sediment, and in working order.

  • We have 2 state routes in the city which are Hillsboro Road (Hwy 431) and OHB (Hwy 254) which are owned/maintained by TDOT.

    • TDOT has authorized NDOT crews (Crowder Gulf Co.) to pick up the debris along their corridors.

    • Metro Nashville will have their NDOT crew’s picking up along Granny White Pike and along Harding Place since these are Metro Nashville owned/maintained roadways.

    • Please contact either TDOT or Metro Nashville for any concerns along these corridors.

  • Please continue to spread the word on how the city communicates information to our residents.

    • I have added a subscription button to our website homepage to make it easier for residents if you wish to sign up for our email blasts. You can go to City of Forest Hills to subscribe.
