Newsletter

Good afternoon,

Hope everyone is doing well with these extreme temperatures we have had lately. The good news is that the temps are going to cool down in the next few days to give us some relief.

We have a few events coming up and current projects going on in the city that I wanted to take a few minutes to give everyone an update.

I have listed the events and projects below with a brief description and status, then included a link for some additional information. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Mark Hill / City Manager

Kingsbury Drive & OHB Entrance Project

Several years ago, the Cultural and Natural Resouces Committee assisted the city with designing a city-wide plan for all our stone columns, stone walls, and custom poles and street signs. All other areas throughout the city were completed except the Kingsbury & OHB Entrance corridor until now.

The Kingsbury & OHB project was put on hold for several years due to massive increase in material and labor costs during the Covid time frame. Just recently, we were able to procure a sub-contractor through our current IDIQ contract to move forward with the entrance project construction.

The columns were just recently completed this week, and they add such a beautiful addition to this entrance corridor into our city. You can view the plans and pictures in the following link. Kingsbury & OHB Entrance Project

Master Stormwater Plan

A few years ago, the city completed a stormwater survey in the northwest portion of the city. The results called for additional culverts along Tyne Blvd and upgrades to additional areas. Due to this only being part of our infrastructure, the city applied for the TDEC ARP Grant for a Master Stormwater Plan to complete the remainder of the city.

In 2022, the city was awarded the TDEC ARP Grant which would serve as a 65/35 grant funding for the city-wide project. This means the grant would cover 65% of the funding while the city covers 35% of the funding out of the city's general fund.

Since that time, all the city's infrastructures were surveyed, then analyzed by the city's engineering team. This was done to see what was needed to be implemented or modified to ensure our all our infrastructures were operating in the most efficient way possible.

The contract was recently awarded to Jarrett Builders to schedule the construction. There were six (6) identified main areas throughout the city where upgrades and improvements were needed. You can view the plans and locations at the following link: Master Stormwater Plan

In addition to the six main projects, we have identified several other smaller problem areas. After recent storm events, our city engineers met with several residents throughout the city regarding flooding concerns. Each concern was evaluated to determine what the city could assist with and what would be the homeowner's responsibility. The city cannot perform work on private property, but our engineers were willing to meet residents on site and give homeowners advise for the best possible solution on their property.

The city will be issuing work orders this week to our IDIQ contractors. The scope of work they will be addressing will include pipe upsizing, regrading, ditching, and the removal of sediment.

Due to storms events increasing, the city will continue to monitor its stormwater infrastructure for any modifications needed. We strongly recommend that all residents monitor their properties stormwater measurements during and after storm events for any modifications needed to avoid any future problems.

Tyne Blvd Pathway Project

For several years now, the city has been looking into the possibility of adding a pathway along Tyne Blvd, but it has been delayed due several factors.

In 2022, the city submitted for the TDOT TAP Grant and was awarded the grant in 2023 to construct the new 3/4-mile 10' wide pathway along the south side of Tyne Blvd from Hillsboro Road to Robert E. Lee Drive. The grant is an 80/20 grant, which means the grant will cover 80% of the funding and the city will match 20% out of the city's general fund.

The project has several different phases it must follow according to TDOT guidelines and is currently in the NEPA phase, pending going into the ROW phase. We are anticipating construction to start 2026-2027 timeframe.

Phase 2 of the project would continue the pathway on the westside of Tyne Blvd from Hillsboro Road to Belle Meade city limits at Lynnwood Blvd. Additional grants have been put on hold this year by the State of TN, so there are no plans for Phase 2 at this time.

The red line in the map below depicts the current pathway project along Tyne Blvd. from Hillsboro Road to Robert E. Lee Drive.

New Percy Priest Elementary School

In 2023, MNPS was approved for construction of a brand-new school. The groundbreaking was in Sept 2023, and the doors to the new school were scheduled to be opened in the Fall of 2025.

In July 2025, the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held for the new Percy Priest Elementary School. The doors officially opened in August 2025 welcoming students back to their new facility which will serve over 700 students.
